West Bengal Swarojgar Corporation Limited (WBSCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Government of West Bengal under Self-Help Group & Self Employment Department was set up in 2009 to provide some of the critical supports to the self-help groups and unemployed youth in the form of marketing, capacity building, accessing loan/subsidy for the unemployed youth and revolving fund/ credit for the SHGs, providing interest subvention to the SHGs on the bank loans received and utilised and several other functions. Under overall guidance of the Department, WBSCL is governed by an independent Board of Directors presided over by the Chairman and a senior All India service Officer serves as the Managing Director of the Corporation. The Corporation is entrusted with the responsibility of implementing Swami Vivekananda Swanirbhar Karmashansthan Prakalpa (SVSKP), West Bengal Swanirbhar Sahayak Prakalpa (WBSSP), Training for the SHG members and unemployed youth, Muktidhara and other projects. Another important project implemented by the Corporation is Samaj Sathi, which provides support to the SHG members in case of accidental death, disability caused due to accident and support for wage loss during treatment. Improving marketing avenues for the products of the groups and individuals being a major focus area, the Corporation explores and augments several marketing channels for the products. Organising Sabala Mela at the State, district and sub-district levels is one such priority area.
